The Real Deal, Western Style

I went for a trail ride with my 2 friends and it was great!! We went on a Thurs. (I guess you're supposed to have reservations during the week, but they took us anyway). The facility was very western, it was very dusty and the horses were all minding their own business happily up in the pastures. Our trail guide was a cute dark haired cowboy in his 20's; I think he sensed that my girlfriends and I were a little nervous, but he made us feel comfortable with his warm conversation and the historical stories he told us at certian points on the trail. The Trails were beautiful and the horses were well behaved!! When we left, our butts hurt and we were surely in need of a shower, I think it made the experience more authentic! I will go back for sure!

Best Trails and Horses in San Diego

I've been going to Bright Valley Farms for years and its the best place to ride in San Diego! The people who work and volunteer there are firendly and really care about the horses, I love to hear some of the storys they have of how some of the horses got their names, and all the history of the trails is a treat to hear as well. so if you want to get away from the busy city life, go on down to Bright Valley Frams and go on a trail ride, I have a fun and safe time everytime I go!

What Ranch doesnt have port-a-pottys?

Hello people lets be honest right now! What small sized ranch do you know that has inside bathrooms. Its a good ranch with a rug in the porterpotty and it always has toilet paper! Pretty good compared to the delmar fair and some other nature places! None of the horses are scared or frightened, they all come up and say hello..most even give ya a good rub! As for the voulenteers or employees i have gone out with every one working there and no one has said anything on the topic of being drunk. They are all well mannered, and friendly. The trails are gorgeous...expecially the river one going through water. It's always a good temp and the only emaciated looking horses there are retired ones who are constantly being fed extra fatty foods plus their normal diet. Everyone at BVF is caring and friendly...SOGO GIVE THEM A TRY!

Great fun

One of my best friends worked there last year and she told me to come out and she would give me a ride. We went out on the trails for an hour and it was AMAZING!!! It's hard to believe that in the spring time there is a place that can be so gorgeous smack dab in the middle of San Diego. My horse was very quiet, very obedient didn't give me any trouble but was still attentive and took great care of me. The personnel were friendly and bright, and seemed to really know what they were doing. I absolutely recommend Bright Valley Farms for anyone who is looking for a peaceful, enjoyable, gentle trail ride in scenic San Diego.

DO NOT support this facility

went on a trail ride recently. told them we were experienced riders(and we are very much so) however, they put me on a young mare most likely in season and definitely not something fun to ride on a trail. also the trails we were on at one point made the horses walk down a very steep rocky slippery path- if one of those horses slipped, experienced or not you and/or the horse could be seriously injured. helmets are optional if you are over the age of 18, but i think that should be strictly enforced. the facility is not very clean, neither are the horses, and a lot of the horses look emaciated. the only good thing i have to say is that the guide that took us out was very nice, except she couldve left out the stories of her friends getting drunk and riding the horses through the fields.

Good outdoor fun

If you want an enjoyable time getting some fresh air and sunshine, consider a trail ride at Bright Valley Farms. They have horses for everybody. The trails are on a wildlife refuge and are beautiful. The trail rides are guided by youth volunteers that have riding exp. and many actually own their horses. The horses are well fed and well trained. If you have children under 7 yrs, they offer "pony" rides. These are on older, retired trail horses that are led by a parent around an arena. Remember, its a ranch, so you will get dusty and dirty. You should dress accordingly, long pants and closed toed shoe. If you want to hone your riding skills, lessons are available. Lessons are taught in an arena, they can be private, semi-private or group. So, if you are looking for something a little different to do, or just enjoy being around horses and being out in the fresh air, I know you'll enjoy your visit. I did!

Terrible Stable

The place was dirty and dusty. There were no bathrooms, except for a port-a-potty down the road. The horses were filthy, and most of them in the corral were not ride-able. The lessons are TERRIBLE. The instructor does not know what shes doing and hasn't really done anything with horses except ride in circles in an arena. The person who trains the horses must be very cruel because the horses are very frightened. The volunteers and trail guides are all young, inexperienced, rude, loud, do I have to say more? A lot of the horses spooked a lot, even the kids's horses. I took a look at the boarding facilities, and they are WAY overpriced for what you get. Even the privately-owned horses are not in very good shape, and the riders are very inexperienced around horses. DO NOT GO TO BRIGHT VALLEY FARMS.

A Fun Riding Experience

The farm has well-behaved horses for all levels of riders, including experienced riders. There's a large area with several trails and you can leave from here and do multi day pack trips as well.
